Wheel hub design: Success Story

Our car leans on its suspension, which consists of a lot of components. We design these components for extreme situations.

This week it was finally time to put the car on wheels! Our Vehicle Dynamics engineers have been pushing towards this moment. The car leans on its suspension, which consists of a lot of components.

We design these components for extreme situations and this requires cutting edge materials, in particular for the wheel hubs. These connection between the wheels and the suspension are heavily loaded parts. They endure enormous fatigue loads, as do the wheels on the track. Titanium proved to be the perfect material balance in fatigue life and weight saving for the wheel hubs, with this material the hubs could be designed to last 10 million cycles! The titanium is supplied by Merrem & La Porte, after which it was machined to make the beautiful hubs that support the Forze IX.
